Stars Marlis Petersen (Angelica), Tom Randle (Orlando), Pietro Spagnoli (Rodomonte), Magnus Staveland (Medoro), Sunhae Im (Eurilla), Alexandrina Pendatchanska (Alcina), Victor Torres (Pasquale), and Arttu Kataja (Licone/Caronte). René Jacobs conducts the Freiburger Barockorchester. Set and costume design by Nigel Lowery. Directed for TV by Andreas Morell; produced by Paul Smaczny. Sung in Italian. Released 2013, disc has 5.1 dts-HD Master Audio sound. Grade: NA

Wikipedia says this eroicomico opera Orlando Paladino was extremely popular opera during Haydn’s lifetime. Fred Cohn wrote an approving review of this production at pages 61-62 of the October 2013 Opera News pointing out that Lowery stresses the comico aspect of the work while Hosseinpour, a choreographer, keeps the performers “all but dancing” throughout with semaphoric movements following the beat of the music. I note also that Andreas Morell, the best videographer of the human body on the planet, was on board to make the video file. So if you like Haydn’s Il Mondo della luna, you might go for his Orlando Paladino also.
